Designed by Toronto-based architectural firm UUfie, the ‘Lake Cottage’ is a contemporary interpretation of a childhood treehouse. Set beside the Kawartha Lakes in Canada, this family home plays with its location and structure in a thoroughly thoughtful way.
The playful experiences of adventure, excitement, and anticipation associated with childhood treehouses are beautifully channeled through the feature elements of this home. These include, mirrored walls, unconventionally shaped windows and passageways. The staircase, which has been crafted from a tree trunk, gives the feeling that you are climbing into the canopy. The mirrored walls invite the illusion of becoming one with the forest, and the remaining interior is almost entirely crafted from local wood. An abundance of openings, precisely fourteen in the main living space, flood the home with light and reveal snippets of the sky and the surrounding trees.
