MCM x König Souvenir Editorial

In the latest mashup of art and fashion, König Souvenir and MCM Worldwide have released a capsule collection of travel goods and accessories.

The limited edition collection was launched at this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, marking the first collaboration between German-born, Seoul-based leather goods label MCM and Berlin-based art initiative König Souvenir, by König Galerie and SOUVENIRby. In a reimagining of six classic MCM styles — from handbags to wallets and duffel bags — König Souvenir have turned the ugly parts of traveling into designer accessories. Luggage tags, baggage check tickets, and neon handles have been combined with MCM’s traditional monogram — every part the meeting of tradition and contemporary art. The founder of König Souvenir, David Mallon, explains; “It’s an experiment in democratizing art — we are connecting the value that people find in great works of contemporary art to objects of everyday use that everyone can afford.” In this series, shot by Clara Renner for iGNANT Production, the pieces have been photographed in the very place where the art of old receives new life. The collection will be available from flagship MCM stores from January.
