Like many parents with 9-to-5 jobs, Australian PR consultant and single “mum” Evie Farrell (mumpack travel) feared her strict work schedule was hindering her relationship with her 5-year-old daughter, Emily. While the thought of heroically handing in her notice and spending more time with her child remained a mere pipe dream, everything changed when Farrell suffered an eye-opening tragedy. “My girlfriend passed away from cancer,” she told the Daily Mail Australia. “She was the most wonderful, gorgeous woman and she had two children. It was a big reminder to grab life and do everything while you can.”
And that’s exactly what she did.
In February of 2016, Farrell abandoned her job—and plans to remodel her kitchen—in order to spend her savings (totaling $21,700) traveling the world with little Emily. Eyeing dream destinations in Europe, America, and Asia, the daring duo intended to travel for a year. So far, they’ve gazed at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, had a proper good time in London, met Mickey Mouse in Disneyland, cuddled with elephants in a Thai sanctuary, and taken in Shanghai’s sky-high sites. After such an eventful twelve months, however, they learned that they’re not quite ready to kiss their nomadic life goodbye; Evie has prolonged their already-extended vacation by another six months, which they intend to spend in Asia.
While it may seem as if they’re living in paradise—literally and figuratively—even holidays have their hard times. Farrell has since run out of savings, so she now relies on rent payments and sponsorships (nice work if you can get it!) from sites she visits. Additionally, life on the road doesn’t change their mother-daughter-dynamic. “The challenges of being away on a trip like this,” Farrell told the Daily Mail, “are mostly the same as the ones we have at home – schoolwork, manners, bedtimes and eating meals – we just deal with them in incredible locations.”
That doesn’t sound too bad to us!
This is Australian mother-daughter-duo, Evie and Emily.
They’ve been travel buddies for a long time now.
But it wasn’t until 2015 that Evie decided to quit her job to travel with Emily.
Since then, they’ve traveled to Europe…
