It’s important to disconnect every once and a while. Shutting down your laptop and putting away your phone can help you to gain perspective—one that only comes when you’re not scrolling through social media. But, doing this is often easier said than done. To aid you in your quest for a digital detox, Getaway has placed 75 stylish micro cabins within remote forests on the east coast of the US. They are all WiFi free and have little to no cell reception, which practically forces you to live in the moment; it’s great for those who have trouble pulling themselves away from their computer screens. The cabins even include a cell phone lockbox!
Starting at $125 a night, each of the all-inclusive tiny homes comes equipped with everything you’ll need for a woodsy getaway. The interiors boast a single queen-size bed and a kitchenette that, along with a mini-fridge and two-burner stove, is stocked with food. Additionally, the cabins include a full bathroom as well as a dining table that’s begging you to play the board games stored there. For outdoor fun, there’s a fire pit and a picnic table.
The choice of no WiFi and minimalist interiors fall in line with the company’s overall vision. “It’s an experience designed to bring us back to our elements,” they explain, “immerse us in the magic of the woods, and challenge us to rediscover the pleasure of boredom, solitude, and unstructured time.” It’s why they’ve placed a floor-to-ceiling window next to every bed. “The concept behind this design is to sleep in nature: one can go to bed gazing up at the night sky and then wake up with the sun, adjacent to the trees,” Getaway says. “The window is our equivalent of a television screen one finds in hotel rooms.”
When you book a cabin with Getaway, there’s an exciting element of surprise. The exact location of your cabin is a secret until after you’ve confirmed your reservation. But don’t worry—you won’t be driving across the country. The tiny abodes are a couple of hours away from Boston, New York City, and Washington D.C., and they have plans to expand to other areas soon.
