Playful Animal-Inspired Outerwear Turns Children Into Adorable Creatures When They Wear It

Childhood should be a period in which the imagination thrives, and clothing can play a festive role in this exciting time. Olive and Vince is an online brand—created by two moms named Naomi and Nat—that infuses whimsy into everyday attire with their animal-inspired outerwear. The playful coats and capes are adorned with furry ears and tails, as well as ladybug antennas and bumble-bee stripes. As the child steps into the creature-themed designs, they get to play make-believe and pretend they’re a sly fox, floppy-eared bunny, or black cat.

Many of Olive and Vince creations are subtle in their frivolities, with only ears or furry patches for tails—kids can still wear the garments without looking like they’re dressed for Halloween. In terms of construction, the pieces are produced with high-quality felt for the outer layer and include a medium-weight lining. Plus, the finishings are the same you’d see on adult’s outerwear and feature chunky toggle-style buttons or sweet ribbon to tie.

Olive and Vince boasts “fuss free” clothing for toddlers, and all items are both beautiful as well as comfortable. You can find their entire selection on Etsy.

Adorable Dogs Are Suiting Up Like Presidential Politicians for Election Day

Election Day is right around the corner (November 8th) and if you’re still unsure of who you’re going to vote for, there may be a new Third Party that’s right for you and our nation: Dogs For President. Proud humans are sharing photos of their stately dogs online, as if they were campaign posters…and these dogs mean business. Many are dressed in red and blue ties, white collared button downs, and suits proudly adorned with “Vote for Me” buttons, while other dogs choose to show their support with general “Dog for President” pins.

Reddit has become a popular forum for canine candidate selections. “I know how I’ll be voting in a few weeks: my corgi Pancakes for president,” wrote Redditor klundtasaur. In a quick response, Redditor bojangles001 wrote “Don’t vote Corgi, vote Dachshund! He is a good boy” and shared a photo of the Dachsund representative. There are many other furry friends with their eyes on the presidential prize, including the Pitbull, Boston Terrier, German Shorthaired Pointer, and Husky nominees. Like any election, arguments between voters have arisen—particularly about whose policies on face-licking, brands of dog treats, and bathroom clean-up will be best for our country.

We have some good candidates this year, folks. Scroll down to familiarize yourself with each dog’s profiles before November 8th…and remember, Vote for Dog!

  • Realistic Paper Sculptures of Everyday Objects Transform the Mundane Into Works of Art

Realistic Paper Sculptures of Everyday Objects Transform the Mundane Into Works of Art

Tokyo-based artist Makiko Azakami intricately and skillfully crafts paper into realistic replicas of everyday objects.

Azakami’s 30-year penchant for paper began as a hobby, when she spontaneously yet skillfully cut and pasted the material into a miniature sculpture of Godzilla. Inspired by the “beguiling creature,” she produced more paper pieces, eventually turning the craft into a career.

Azakami implements only paper, tape, tweezers, scissors, and a knife to create the strikingly lifelike sculptures, which vary in size and span subject matter—from delicate jewelry to ordinary office supplies. Through careful cutting and meticulous handcrafting, Azakami breathes new life into humdrum objects and creates pieces that are deceptively fragile and extraordinarily detail-oriented.

HPGR Gallery in New York is currently showing I Tools, an exhibition of new works by the artist.

  • Children Cast Superhero Shadows to Reveal Their Heroic Aspirations

Children Cast Superhero Shadows to Reveal Their Heroic Aspirations

Artist Jason Ratliff is known for using superhero-centric images to inspire and empower children throughout the world. In his collection called Super Shadows, he depicts portraits of kids whose exaggerated shadows reflect the fictional figures that they admire most—like Batman, Ironman, and Captain America. By combining children with superheroes, he makes the powerful statement that these young people are already great and can be anything they want to be.

Ratliff has since continued these engaging artworks that boast bright colors and a bold, geometric style to include new kids and more heroes. Aptly-called Super Shadows II, the second part of this ongoing project reminds children that superheroes are of all races, genders, and abilities. Not all heroes wear capes—being true to yourself, defending others, and doing good is just as honorable as Superman, Deadpool, and Wonder Woman fighting evil in comic books and movies.

Ratliff’s Super Shadows II collection is now available as purchasable prints on Curioos. It just launched and, until October 22, 2016, 50% of all sale proceeds will be donated to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

  • Photographer Transforms 3-Year-Old Daughter Into Wonder Woman in $1,500 Photoshoot

Photographer Transforms 3-Year-Old Daughter Into Wonder Woman in $1,500 Photoshoot

What kid doesn’t want to be a superhero? When 3-year-old Nellee shared her dream to become Wonder Woman with her father Josh Rossi, the commercial photographer didn’t just head to the nearest Halloween aisle—he created an entire photoshoot. Spending $1,500 on a custom, hand-made, leather Wonder Woman costume and props, Rossi pulled out all the stop to make his child’s dream become a reality.

As the Wonder Woman film won’t be released until the summer, Rossi had only the trailer to work off of for inspiration. Nellee and her mom put in hours studying the video and 1970s television show in order to perfect Wonder Woman’s moves and facial expressions. The shoot itself took a day, with a full Justice League team on hand to help Nellee get into position, especially for a flying scene, which in the final image shows her soaring above an apocalyptic landscape. For many of the images Rossi relied on composite shooting, photographing several body parts individually to create one final image in post production.

The end result is a series of eight images that transport Nellee into the world of Wonder Woman. Now she just needs a shoot with Gal Gadot. See more finished and behind the scenes images below, as well as a short video detailing the making of the adventure.

Nellee’s costume was created by McGrew’s Studios in Salt Lake City.

A combination of simple Photoshop effects and complex compositing were used to achieve the final look.

The most difficult shot required several people helping Nellee into position, with her mom working as her “acting coach.”

  • Graphic Designer Spends Entire Year Creating a New Minimalist Movie Poster Every Day

Graphic Designer Spends Entire Year Creating a New Minimalist Movie Poster Every Day

When graphic designer Peter Majarich rang in 2016, he opted for a particularly unique New Year’s resolution: to design a new movie poster each day.

Majarich views the project—aptly titled A Movie Poster A Day—as both an artistic endeavor and a personal challenge. The cinematic series emerged as a way to cohesively and creatively combine his interest in pop culture with his tendency toward a modern and minimalist aesthetic. While his reimagined and recreated posters are stylistically unique and his concepts are inventive, he makes sure that every homage honors the film’s original intentions. “Each poster aims to be an alternative take on the original theatrical release poster,” he explains, “while still staying true to the movie’s concepts.”

In addition to executing A Movie Poster A Day, Majarich also runs Craft and Graft, a Sydney-based design studio. Select signed posters are available to purchase through the stylish shop, where you can also catch a sneak-peek of his other current projects.

  • Multivalent Sculptures By Nick Hornby

    Multivalent Sculptures By Nick Hornby

Known for multifaceted sculpture cast in marble resin, British artist Nick Hornby is one of the young talents taking advantage of computer modeling. Each piece is a composition of the most eminent art historic images that manifests themselves only from affirmative perspectives. For his sculptures he uses a computer generated model before cast into three-dimensional objects by using materials including bronze and marble resin. Hornby develops abstract shapes by integrating aspects of iconic sculptures and architecture in order to create an innovative design through reshaping, moving and warping forms. For the viewer, it seems to take the shape of different popular sculptures of the past while moving around the art object. The hidden agenda of Hornby`s sculptures is not only the technological use of creating potential new worlds, but also a way of exploring alternative ways of seeing art.

  • Quirky Stemware Instantly Turns a Bottle of Wine Into a Giant Glass

Quirky Stemware Instantly Turns a Bottle of Wine Into a Giant Glass

Attention, wine lovers! There’s a new must-have accoutrement that will make sipping (or gulping) your favorite vintage even more enjoyable. Introducing Guzzle Buddy, a customized glass that eliminates “boring pouring” and instantly transforms any bottle into an indulgent drink-for-one. The ingenious invention’s construction is simple; Guzzle Buddy is just a typical wine glass whose stem has been replaced with a spout. The spout easily screws into the mouth of a standard wine bottle, creating a hybrid vessel that prevents spilling and, more importantly, allows you to start swigging faster.

While the product itself has only recently hit Amazon, the concept is a couple years old—and, surprisingly, it all started with a sitcom. Randy Rofthus, the company’s sales manager, explained to Decanter that the Guzzle Buddy actually made its debut in a 2014 episode of Cougar Town, when it was introduced à la a silly mock infomercial. “We saw that episode and then went on a hunt to find it,” Rothfus explains. “However, no one had come up with it yet so we made it.” They were so excited by Cougar Town’s approach to the invention that they kept the design, the quirky name, and even the catchy tagline: “You just plug it and chug it!”

Though Guzzle Buddy was inspired by a funny fictional contraption and predominantly intended to entertain, Rothfus notes its high-quality composition and durability, explaining that it is composed of “very strong glass made from borosilicate and not some cheap flimsy thin glass.” And, at just $14.49 on Amazon, it’s well worth the price!

Functional, comical, and built-to-last, Guzzle Buddy is a perfect way to relax with a “glass” of wine.

  • Realistically Crafted Clay Succulents Are “Living” Accessories That Last Forever

Realistically Crafted Clay Succulents Are “Living” Accessories That Last Forever

Living succulent jewelry is stunningly beautiful, but it comes with a big drawback—eventually, the plants will wilt. Iryna Osinchuk-Chajka of Eten Iren, known for her magical butterfly crowns, has cheated death by creating a variety of succulent accessories that will last forever. Although they look persuasively realistic, the necklaces, hair accessories, and ring boxes are adorned with polymer clay plants.

Osinchuk-Chajka uses a material that bakes in the oven to form tiny waxy-looking buds and curled leaves in a bevy of green hues. The handiwork is exceptionally convincing thanks to her attention to detail—Osinchuk-Chajka highlights the subtle changes in color that are common in the popular plants. It’s nearly impossible to tell that they’re expertly-crafted sculptures as opposed to living flora.

Marketed towards weddings, these stylish and modern accessories are all available through the Eten Iren Etsy shop.

  • Photographer Spent $1,500 To Turn His 3-Year-Old Daughter Into Wonder Woman

Photographer Spent $1,500 To Turn His 3-Year-Old Daughter Into Wonder Woman

Parents get pretty obsessive when it comes to creating an awesome Halloween costume for their kids. But photographer Josh Rossi took it one step further by making his three-year-old daughter Nellee’s dream of becoming Wonder Woman, a reality.

Josh went all out spending $1500 on a professional-looking hand made leather costume by the guys at Mcgrew’s studio in Salt Lake City. And to make it was no small feat, considering that the Wonder Woman movie is hitting theaters only next year, so the team had only the teaser trailer to work with on getting the outfit details right.

The whole photoshoot took two and a half hours, which was enough time to release the inner super hero in Nellee. After that, dad teamed up with Photoshop for the final touches needed to take Nellee to the comic book pages.
