Stefano Gardel Captures The Last Light In Iceland

In ‘Chasing Light’, Italian photographer Stefano Gardel has captured light as it breaks through dense, low lying cloud — illuminating with piercing clarity the spectacular landscape of Iceland.

Light in Iceland is either all-encompassing or nowhere to be seen. In summer, it seems that days fall into one another. Night never arrives, and waking hours are buttressed instead by a lingering dusk. In contrast, winter brings around four hours of light a day, and a deep darkness cloaks the land. Gardel’s series takes this darkness and permeates it with a warm brightness, capturing the luminous power of a single ray of light.
