The Melt House In Osaka

Situated in a slightly elevated part of Osaka, the suburban site is narrow and small — edged in by apartment blocks and houses. SAI Architecture Design Office was asked by the client to create a home here that would interact with its surrounds, but that would also offer green, natural spaces. In an effort to maximize space, the building was designed in elongated form and takes up nearly the entire plot of land. Though narrow, the double height of the home and its floor to ceiling windows offer light and grant the impression of a generous space. At the center of the building is a courtyard that divides the north and south volumes of the home. Here, trees reach beyond the ground floor into an atrium that the upper levels look out onto.
