Graceful Ballet Dancers Step Off the Stage to Electrify the Streets of Buenos Aires

Justina Dayloff

Photographer Omar Z. Robles documents the beauty of people and places around the work through his exquisite dance photography. For years, we’ve loved “traveling” with him to locales that have included New York City, Havana, Mexico City, Hong Kong, and more recently, Santiago, Chile. Each gives us a sense of the city’s flavor, both in terms of architecture as well as ballet culture. Robles celebrates the individuality of a place by showcasing its unique buildings that are punctuated by the powerful, graceful movements of talented dancers.

Robles is always jetting off to somewhere new, and he recently shared with us his trip to Buenos Aires. “For years and years,” Robles writes, “I had been yearning of making my way to Argentina.” The rather spontaneous trip to the capital city was “short but intense,” and he ended up photographing six shoots in less than 48 hours—talk about a whirlwind!

Robles, however, thrived on this artistic intensity. “In all honesty it was overwhelming, and exhausting and for a brief moment I thought I was going nuts. But it was AWESOME AND TOTALLY WORTH IT!” Booking all of the photo shoots in such a short time frame forced him to visit many neighborhoods and allowed him to get a more complete sense of the place. “Buenos Aires was everything I imagined all [these] years and then some. The colors, architecture, the people, that beautiful porteño accent heard everywhere.” He sums it up with, “Was I dreaming?”

Photographer Omar Z. Robles travels the world to document dancers as they electrify the city streets with their graceful movements.
